Everyone joined orientation of geology. The excise is that each group takes 5 stones, and think a story about these stones where and how spent his life. First, a map around Tawatawdi was distribute each group, and confirm the point where we where. Then, we went to the other shore by bilibili. And we took stones. Some asked Mr. Hagiya to explained a stone. Some hit a stone by the hammer. Everyone watched stones and thought those.

At night meeting, we presentation story we thought.

Geological Survey in Qalimare Thu 09 SEP

First day of fieldwork, our group was assigned geology.

Before we went to Qalimare Limestone area, we observed the boring core in Tawatawadi. They have a lot of fossils, Mr. Hagiya taught us. So we noticed its surface.

The point we started to walk is where 100 meter off the Sigatoka River.

After 30 minutes walking, we reached the point where we saw volcanic deposit. Mr. Hagiya explained that the size of stones is almost the same, so we thought these are volcanic deposit. And we can imagine these are flushed by tremendous flow long long time ago.

We walked along the stream, and then we walked the spine.

On ours way, Mr. Hagiiya and Mr. Inoke discussed about Limestone around there. Which it is original or crumbled and fallen? Mr. Inoke's opinion is that some are crumbled and fallen from top of the mountain, most of them are original.

We had lunch. After lunch, Mr. Hagiya suggested that who is still fine went ahead for 30 minute. Mr. Hagiya stayed there. I went, but gave up halfway. Ms. Suzan, U.S.P student and some of Japanese student went ahead. After everyone came back, we started.

We measured strike and dip by clinometers. It's N5567NW. We recorded.

We reached the point we started to walk. And we went to back Tawatawadi village by jeep. We walked for about 3.5 hours.

After meeting, we painted the map. The limestone area is light blue, the sandstone area is brown, and the andesine area is red. But area isn't clear. So we will watch tomorrow. The map didn't finish.
